Contract NegotiationInspection ProceduresThe ClosingMoving Out

Ahhh...moving day! Okay, this step of the selling process should be fairly straightforward. There will be a date in the sales contract that states when you are to be moved out and the buyer will be allowed to move in. There probably is also a statement in that contract that defines what happens if you are not moved out by that deadline (usually some sort of financial compensation to the buyer).

Make certain you know this date. You don't want to be packing a truck Saturday morning thinking you have all day to move when you really needed to be completed with your move by Saturday morning.

Your real estate agent should by now, if not already, come by to pick up any signs, lockboxes, brochure displays, etc. so that these items are not in your way. Don't forget to leave behind keys, garage remote controls, or other items that the buyer is going to need. It is also nice (but not required) to leave behind any paints, tiles, grouts, etc. that are specific to the home.

Things To Do:

• Request to have your mail forwarded from the post office

• Stop or transfer service with your gas/electic company

• Stop or transfer service with your phone company

• Stop or transfer service with your cable or satellite TV provider

• Stop or transfer service with your garbage company

• Most often your water/sewer service will be transfered by the Title Company
